Lucknow, Nov 12 (Inditop.com) A first semester student of law at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree inside the university campus in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi town late Wednesday night, officials said Thursday.
Arun Gupta was found hanging from a tree in the sports ground Thursday morning.
“A morning walker called me and informed about the incident. It appears that Gupta was depressed and committed suicide,” J.P. Rai, chief proctor of the BHU, told Inditop.
After scanning his mobile phone record, it was found that he sent an SMS to his father at 12.40 a.m. before committing suicide.
“The SMS read ‘please forgive me for not fulfilling your desires’. This was the second time he took admission in the BHU. In 2007, he took admission in the same stream but left within a few months and went to Delhi University,” Rai added.
Inspector R.S. Verma said: “No suicide note has been recovered, either from the spot or from his hostel room. Ragging is also ruled out as his classmates of 2007 batch are his seniors studying in third semester.”
