Baghdad, Nov 25 (DPA) At least one person was killed and 46 injured when two bombs exploded in the central Iraqi city of Karbala Wednesday, doctors said.

Witnesses said the first bomb badly damaged a restaurant on Karbala’s Jamaiya Street, near a military base where soldiers often gather for a traditional Iraqi breakfast.

Minutes later, a second bomb rigged to a bicycle exploded just outside the restaurant, witnesses said.

Police sealed off the area, and emergency workers arrived to take the injured to hospital.

Karbala, 120 km south of Baghdad, is the site of important Shiite religious shrines.

Five people were killed and 15 injured in a Nov 1 bomb attack in the city’s al-Naqib district.
