Mumbai, April 20 (Inditop) Indian equities markets closed in the red with a key index shutting shop 43.59 points below its last closing figure after opening and ruling in the green in earlier sessions.

The 30-scrip Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) sensitive index (Sensex), which opened at 11,065.1 points, fell 43.59 points or 0.4 percent to close at 10,979.5 points.

Similarly, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) lost 0.22 percent from the previous close to end trade at 3,377.10 points.

However, the BSE midcap index gained 1.62 percent, while the BSE smallcap index was up 1.51 percent.
