Hyderabad, Dec 10 (Inditop.com) Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhara Rao called off his 11-day fast at a hospital here in the wee hours of Thursday soon after the central government announced that the process of forming a separate state of Telangana will be initiated.
KCR, as Rao is popularly known, was offered lemon juice by TRS ideologue Jayashankar in the intensive care unit of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).
Soon after Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram made an announcement in Delhi that a resolution would be moved in the state assembly, the TRS leaders met KCR and conveyed the same to him.
KCR, whose condition had worsened since Tuesday, broke the fast after brief consultation with Jayashankar.
The Mahabubnagar MP had launched fast-unto-death demanding separate state soon in Khamam jail Nov 29 after his arrest near Karimnagar town.
“It is a step in the right direction. We welcome it,” said KCR’s son and legislator K. Tarakarama Rao.
TRS leaders expect Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, on his arrival here, would provide details like when the resolution would be moved in the assembly.
KCR’s son said he hoped that the Congress would not only move the resolution but take it to the logical conclusion.
“We hope to see a clear road map for formation of Telangana state,” he said.
