Islamabad, Dec 25 (Inditop.com) An Indian fisherman lodged in a Pakistani jail died of cancer Friday, officials said.
The fisherman identified as Sukkan Koma was arrested for illegal fishing in Pakistani waters in 2006, jail officials in the Pakistani port city of Karachi said.
The 50-year-old Indian had been provided every possible treatment for cancer, Xinhua reported citing officials.
The body will soon be handed over to the Indian authorities for repatriation, they said.
The death came at a time when Pakistan released 100 Indian fishermen from a Karachi prison Friday after a delay of two days.
The fishermen were released as a goodwill gesture on the order by Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
They will be handed over Saturday to the Indian authorities on the Wagah border near the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore.
Pakistan and India often arrest each other’s fishermen, as there is no mutually recognised demarcation of their maritime boundaries.
