New Delhi, Jan 13 (Inditop.com) Morning rain had Delhiites scurrying for cover early Wednesday. Though the skies cleared later in the day, it made for a chilly Lohri festival that the capital’s residents celebrated in the evening.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the total rainfall recorded Wednesday was 4.6 mm. There is, however, no rain forecast over the next few days.

“There was a cyclonic circulation over south Rajasthan which led to the brief spell of rain this (wednesday) morning in Delhi. No more rain has been forecast over the next few days. However, dense fog is predicted Thursday and Friday,” an IMD official told Inditop.

The minimum temperature recorded Wednesday was 8.1 degrees Celsius, a notch above the average for this time of the year, and visibility at 9 a.m. was 300 metres.

The maximum temperature recorded was five degrees below the average at 16.2 degrees Celsius.

While no disruptions were reported in the flight schedules at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport because of the weather, train schedules were nevertheless affected because of the backlog of the past few days.

“There are 15 delays today (Wednesday). The backlog from the past few days is still going on,” a Northern Railways official told Inditop.

Around 20 trains to destinations in northern India have been cancelled, the railways website said.

Traffic was crawling on the capital’s roads in the morning hours, with faulty signals adding to commuter woes.

“Due to weather, traffic is a problem in some areas. But we have deployed more personnel to man each signal. The situation is considerably better,” Joint Commissioner of Police traffic Satyender Garg said.
