Kolkata, Feb 1 (Inditop.com) West Bengal’s ruling Left Front Monday attacked the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the centre for “unnecessarily” delaying the release of the Ranganath Mishra Commission report in the Lok Sabha.

“We do think the report could have been released earlier in the Lok Sabha. The union government has unnecessarily delayed the whole process.

“The central government released the report just before the closure of the Lok Sabha session. So there was hardly any scope for discussion on the recommendations,” state Left Front chairman Biman Bose told a press conference here.

He claimed that the Ranganath Mishra Commission report was prepared earlier but it was kept under wraps.

“The centre did not make public the report on time. The union government should also have discussed the report with all the national parties,” Bose said, welcoming the committee’s recommendations.

The Ranganath Mishra Commission report has recommended 10 percent reservation for Muslims and five percent for other minorities in government jobs.

Bose said the state Left Front had suggested all its constituents to go through the recommendations in detail.

“All the Left Front partners have been asked to submit their views about the report to the state Left Front committee with a copy to the chief minister,” he said.

However, the state Left Front is biding its time in implementing the recommendations as also these years it had consistently opposed reservation on the basis of religion.

“Once we receive all the views from all the allies, the Left Front will take a unanimous decision on the report considering the factor how it would benefit the economically and socially backward sections of our society.”

The Left Front chairman said the central government should prepare the modalities and necessary procedure before implementing the committee’s recommendations.

Earlier state Left Front ally, Forward Bloc state secretary Ashok Ghosh had sent a letter to Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee urging the state government to take the initiative to implement the recommendations.
