Bangalore, Feb 5 (Inditop.com) Advocates here Friday wished former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda ‘gets well soon’, a day after he used abusive language against Advocate General Ashok Haranahalli for the second time.
Karnataka Law Minister S. Suresh Kumar also joined the state advocates at Basaveshwara Circle, less than a km from the state secretariat building, holding a placard saying in Kannada it does not behove a former prime minister to use abusive language.
Gowda is reported to have called the advocate general “bloody b….” at a public meeting in Chennapatna, about 60 km from here, Thursday.
Gowda had called Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Haranahalli “bloody b….” Jan 10 over the issue of land allocation for Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor. He later apologised.
The Karnataka State Bar Council, which organised Friday’s protest, passed a resolution condemning Gowda for abusing Haranahalli.
The advocates carried a banner reading “Gowda, get well soon”.
The resolution at the advocates’ meeting said Gowda “repeatedly abused the advocate general, who is a constitutional functionary and an advocate. In a way, an advocate is sought to be intimidated and obstructed from discharging his functions on behalf of his client. The Karnataka State Bar Council strongly condemns this conduct of Gowda”.
The council decided that all advocates in the state would wear a red ribbon Feb 8 as a mark of protest against Gowda’s behaviour.
The Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) leader has been carrying a campaign against what he claims to be grant of excess land to the project promoters and has been particularly harsh on Haranahalli, accusing him of misleading the Supreme Court on the issue.
Gowda’s son and former chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy had, a few months back, said that Haranahalli should be hanged as he was misleading the court.
