New Delhi, Feb 9 (Inditop.com) Iran Tuesday welcomed India’s offer to resume foreign secretary-level talks with Pakistan and offered its help in the negotiations between the two countries to resolve difficult issues.
“We have always welcomed direct negotiations between India and Pakistan. We feel direct negotiations will succeed much faster,” Iranian Ambassador Seyed Mehdi Nabizadeh told reporters here.
Taking note of the proposed talks between foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan, the Iranian envoy said: “Iran, being a friend of India and Pakistan, can play a role in facilitating the negotiations if there is any need.”
The foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan are expected to meet later this month to discuss issues of mutual concern. India is expected to focus on its core concern of cross-border terrorism. Pakistan has indicated that it would like to discuss other issues like Kashmir in the forthcoming talks.
