Aizawl, Feb 21 (Inditop.com) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has asked nationalised banks to provide banking services in all villages, far-flung areas and human habitations in the country, RBI deputy governor Subir Gokarn has said.

“It is very important for every adult Indian citizen to have a bank account since a scheduled bank is not only a safe place to deposit their hard-earned money, but also a channel which links the account holder with the payment and settlement platform enabling easy remittance and payments anywhere in India,” Gokarn told hundreds of villagers Saturday at an outreach camp organised by the apex bank in a remote Mizoram village.

He said: “Everyone can get loans from the banking system at reasonable rates of interest under various schemes for all life cycle requirements such as income generation, birth, education, marriage and death. Many of these schemes are primarily targeting BPL (below poverty line) families.”
