Dajabon (Dominican Republic), Feb 24 (Inditop.com/EFE) An official with the Catholic charity Caritas and a chemical engineer have been kidnapped in eastern Haiti, the organisation Solidaridad Fronteriza and a Jesuit group that aids migrants said here.
They said the incident occurred Saturday in Ouanaminthe, near the Dominican border, and the perpetrators are demanding a ransom of $50,000 for each of the hostages.
The organisations said that the lives of Dieudonne Desormes, the head of Caritas in the northern city of Fort Liberte, and Nene Poisson are in danger because the kidnappers say that they are determined to kill the pair if they do not get the money they are demanding.
They added that Desormes has been tortured and they are concerned about his state of health, while no word about Poisson has been issued by the kidnappers since they abducted him.
The Haitian police along with the UN Stabilisation Mission for Haiti said that they are following the trail of the kidnappers, the organisations reported.
