Shimla, Feb 24 (Inditop.com) The election to one of the three Rajya Sabha seats from Himachal Pradesh would be held next month with union Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma completing his term, an official said here Wednesday.
The seat is falling vacant April 2.
“The election to one Rajya Sabha seat would be held March 26. The seat is falling vacant after the completion of union minister Anand Sharma’s term,” Chief Electoral Officer Anil Khachi told Inditop.
The notification for the election will be issued March 9 and the last date for filing nomination will be March 16, he said.
Sharma, a Congress leader, is unlikely to get elected from Himachal Pradesh as the party in the state has a strength of just 23 members in the 68-member Bharatiya Janata Party-dominated state assembly. He would have to look for a seat in some other Congress-ruled state, party insiders said.
There are three Rajya Sabha seats from Himachal Pradesh — besides Sharma, the other two are held by Shanta Kumar of the BJP and Viplov Thakur of the Congress.
