New Delhi, April 8 (Inditop.com) The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has clarified to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on the decisions taken by the telecom ministry in awarding licences in 2008.
“The factual and the legal position of the department on the decisions taken on the issuance of UAS (Unified [Telecom] Access Services) licences and spectrum allotment have been duly apprised to the Audit in a detailed written reply. Other related issues raised by the Audit have also been clarified,” an official statement said Wednesday.
The DoT also said that the CAG had sought some clarifications but had not come out with any report accusing Communications Minister A. Raja of causing a loss of Rs.26,685 crore to the exchequer in awarding licences in 2008.
It is “merely an inspection memo issued by the P&T Audit Wing of CAG. The draft paras have been sent to the Department of Telecommunications for their comments. It is premature and unwarranted to call mere inspection memo as ‘CAG audit report’.”
“The potential loss arrived at and the administrative decision referred to in the Memo have been made on the basis of the views inferred by P&T Audit Wing of C&AG,” said DOT.
