Srinagar, April 8 (Inditop.com) Hundreds of activists of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) held a rally in this Jammu and Kashmir summer capital to protest rise in prices of essential commodities.
The activists of CPI-M headed by the party’s state general secretary and legislator, M.Y. Tarigami, gathered at the Press Colony shouting slogans against price rise.
“The skyrocketing prices have taken place because of the wrong policies of the central government,” Tarigami said here.
The CPI-M leader also criticized the state government for invoking the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) against the striking government employees who are demanding payment of arrears as per the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission and enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 years.
“The issue should be resolved through a dialogue with the striking government employees. Invoking harsh laws like ESMA would only complicate matters for the government and also result in inconvenience to the people because of the continuing employees’ strike here,” Tarigami said.
