Chandigarh, April 27 (Inditop) The union territory (UT) of Chandigarh has been adjudged the best in blood transfusion services among the states and UTs of the country by the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) in its latest report.
Announcing the findings Monday, M.S. Bains, director in the Cahndigarh administration’s health and family welfare department, said, “A detailed evaluation was done taking into account nine parametres of blood transfusion services. Chandigarh has scored a perfect hundred in eight out of the nine indicators.”
“This is a big achievement and our aim is to produce one healthy donor in each household in the city,” he added.
A New Delhi-based organisation had assessed and evaluated the performance of states and UTs in blood transfusion services on the basis of the nine key parameters and did the grading, the administration’s spokesperson said.
“The parameters, which were considered during evaluation, included annual blood collection, voluntary blood donation, annual blood donation camps and financial expenditure,” the spokesperson said, adding the UT earned an aggregate percentage of 92, and its performance was graded as “very good”.
Chandigarh was followed by West Bengal (78 per cent), Gujarat (77 per cent), Maharashtra (77 per cent) and Tamil Nadu (76 per cent).
Vanita Gupta, project director of State AIDS Control Society (SACS), said: “It is matter of great pride for Chandigarh. SACS and the State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC) worked in unison to support, strengthen and streamline the infrastructure and activities of blood banks and donor organisations of Chandigarh.”
