New Delhi, June 26 (Inditop.com) India and the US discussed the strengthening of cooperation in countering terrorism and the situation in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region when US National Security Adviser James L. Jones called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here Friday.
Jones arrived here on a two-day visit Thursday evening after a trip to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
In his meeting with Jones at his 7 Race Course residence, Manmohan Singh conveyed to him India’s security concerns about the continuing terrorist threat from Pakistan, reliable sources said.
Jones, on his part, reiterated the US commitment to expanding cooperation with India in countering terrorism to ensure that another Mumbai-like attack is not repeated in India, said the sources.
Jones also met his Indian counterpart M.K. Narayanan for delegation-level talks that included an entire spectrum of bilateral, regional and global issues.
The two sides discussed the agenda for the forthcoming visit of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to India, expected late July.
In his discussions with Indian officials, Jones underlined the Obama administration’s desire to take US ties with India to another level and focused on implementing the landmark civil nuclear agreement inked between the two countries last year.
