Mumbai, July 14 (Inditop.com) Buoyed by a strong rally in Asian bourses and renewed buying interest, particularly in realty, metal and consumer durable stocks, a key index of the Indian equities markets closed near its intra-day high Tuesday ending 453 points higher than its previous close.
The 30-scrip benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, which opened at 13,549.42 points, rose 453.38 points or 3.38 percent at 13,853.7 points.
The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) similarly closed 3.46 percent higher at 4,111.4 points.
Broader market indices also ended in the positive terrain, with the BSE midcap index closing 4.27 percent up and the BSE smallcap index ending 4.45 percent higher.
All the 13 sectoral indices on the BSE ended in the green, with those for realty, metal and consumer durables gaining the most.
The market breadth was positive with 1,956 stocks advancing compared to 602 declining. Eighty-one remained unchanged.
All but one of the stocks ended on the Sensex gainers list. Among those in the green were DLF, up 11.44 percent at Rs.300.10; Reliance Infra, up 9.02 percent at Rs.1,053.85; Jaiprakash Associates, up 7.93 percent at Rs.191.30; and ICICI Bank, up 7.6 percent at Rs.679.80.
The sole loser was HDFC Bank, down 1.03 percent at Rs.1,360.40.
Data with the market watchdog, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), showed that foreign funds were net buyers, lapping up scrips worth $38.5 million Tuesday.
In other Asian markets, the Nikkei 225 Stock Average, a key index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, closed Tuesday’s trading at 9,261.81 points, up 211.48 points.
The Hang Seng, the primary index of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, ended at 17,885.73 points, up 631.1 points.
European markets were trading in the green with the FTSE 100, a key British index, ruling 34.25 points up at 4,236.38 points, while its French peer CAC 40 was ruling 18.81 points higher at 3,070.89 points.
Key US market indices future were trading in the green, as most analysts expected financial major Goldman Sachs to post positive financial results Tuesday.
While the Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose 36 points, the Standard and Poor’s 500 index future was up 1.7 points. The technology-scrip heavy Nasdaq futures added 2.75 points.
