Mumbai, May 20 (Inditop) Benchmark indices were down at Indian equities markets even as shares of smaller companies picked up steam. A key index slipped into the red – by over 167 points – about 75 minutes before the closing bell Wednesday.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 14,230.73 points, was ruling 167.31 points or 1.17 percent lower than its previous close Tuesday at 14,134.72 points.
Similarly, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) lost 0.68 percent from the last close to trade at 4,289.15 points.
However, broader market indices were ruling in the green, with the BSE midcap index gaining 5.72 percent and the BSE smallcap index up 7.94 percent.
