Ranchi, Feb 11 (Inditop.com) The Jharkhand government has set up a six member committee to study a proposal to hand over a sick company, Pataratu Thermal Power Station (PTPS), to the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
The PTPS has eight units with a capacity to produce more than 800 MW power but it hardly produces 150 MW to 200 MW. The NTPC has submitted a proposal to run the PTPS.
Jharkhand Deputy Chief Minister Raghubar Das, who is also in charge of power, held a high level meeting with state government and NTPC officials Wednesday.
“We have set up a six-member committee to study the proposal. We have also asked PTPS to submit a detailed project report of its investment in the PTPS. The committee will study all the aspects and submit report to the government,” Das told IANS.
The committee, to be headed by Jharkhand chief secretary, will comprise development commissioner, power secretary, chairman of Jharkhand state electricity board (JSEB), finance commissioner and representatives of NTPC.
Power situation in Jharkhand is in doldrums. The state produces only 350 MW from its power plants against the requirement of 1,300 MW. Jharkhand also suffers heavy revenue loss as it purchases power at the rate of Rs.3 per unit from NTPC and Damodar valley Corporation and sells at the rate of Rs.1.75 to consumers.
