Kolkata, April 21 (IANS) The investigation wing of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) has submitted the final report over the alleged unfair business practices in India by global technology company Google, an official from the commission said here on Tuesday.
“The investigation (against Google India) was carried out and the report has been submitted. It is a 700-page report along with annexure running into some 1000-odd pages,” member of CCI U.C. Nahta told media persons here on the sidelines of an event organised by the MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Google was suspected of favouring it own products and services in the search results it yields.
Nahta said it is investigating cases related to some airlines operators charging higher prices for a short distance owing to their dominant presence in the region or the route.
He said the CCI has so far received 25 complaints in April this year. In 2014-15, it registered 107 complaints of fair trade violations.
Over the past five years, it had imposed a fine of Rs.12,474 crore with state-owned Coal India Ltd. accounting for Rs.1,773 crore alone – the highest single case collection.
It has also collected Rs.2,554 crore from 14 car manufacturers.
