New Delhi, April 16 (IANS) Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung Wednesday instructed senior state officials and municipal commissioners to finish de-silting of drains by May 15 and buckle up before the monsoon sets in.

“The preparations must start much in advance so the government is ready to deal with flooding and water-logging during the monsoon by the middle of May,” said Jung in a statement.
He also instructed officials to gear up to tackle floods in Yamuna river and cloudbursts and heavy rainfall during the monsoon.
“There must be better intra-departmental coordination between the municipalities, the Public Works Department and the irrigation and flood control departments. All control rooms set up by different governmental agencies must be able to address the queries of the respondents, irrespective of whose jurisdiction it falls under,” Jung added.
“PWD and municipal commissioners must ensure their chief engineers and superintendent engineers continuously monitor and assess the situation on the ground from the middle of May till the end of the monsoon season in September,” he said.
