New Delhi, Dec 8 (IANS) Delhi has the most active online buyers and sellers in India, a report by leading online retailer eBay said Wednesday.

The third edition of the eBay India Census, which monitors online buying and selling trends, ranked the national capital region (NCR), led by Delhi, as the most active of the 3,296 e-commerce hubs in India.

Country manager of eBay India Ambareesh Murty said the national capital was followed by Mumbai, Jaipur, Chennai and Bangalore.

The report added that Delhi’s online transactions included technology items, movies, car accessories and books.

‘Delhiites have been concentrating on the technology segment, including mobile phones and home theatre accessories,’ Murthy said.

According to the report, entrepreneurs in Delhi sold the most gadgets, at 47 percent of all transactions.

‘Delhi entrepreneurs’ top 5 sold products include diamond jewellery, mobile handsets, women’s wrist watches, diamond rings and sewing machines,’ report said.

In terms of exports, lifestyle products like books, belly dance apparel, gemstones, Royal Enfield accessories and crickets bats topped the list, with 65 percent of all transactions.

Delhi’s residents bought diamond rings, mobile handsets, pen drives, gemstones and wrist watches the most.

Mobile handsets, books, cell phone accessories, Indian stamps were the top imported products in Delhi.

The report also revealed that the information technology hubs of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka are the most wired states in the country from where bulk of e-commerce originates.

Rural India too featured in the report, which said that rural Indians are active online shoppers in 1,054 towns.

‘India’s top 5 rural hubs are Ambalapuzha (Kerala), Sajiyavadar (Gujarat), Adala (Gujarat), Abdalipur (West Bengal) and Kangayampalayam (Tamil Nadu),’ the report said.

The report said while shoppers from metros bought party wear, rural India bought items like dress materials.

Region wise, south India had the most active buyers at 38 percent of all transactions, followed by the western states.

Murty said that the online shopping segment in the country is growing at 30-40 percent annually and is estimated to be around Rs.1,600-1,800 crore.
