New Delhi, Dec 1 (IANS) The Delhi assembly concluded the final day of its winter session Wednesday with the passage of two bills aimed at curbing harassment of tourists and simplifying commercial tax procedures in the city.
‘Prevention of Touting and Malpractices Against Tourists Bill 2010’ and ‘Delhi Value Added Tax Amendment Bill 2010’ – were passed in a brief session of one hour.
The final day passed off without adjournments despite repeated attempts by Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators to stall proceedings.
‘The house has also run without quorum. The secretary should have pointed this out to the speaker,’ BJP leader V.K. Malhotra said.
This year’s winter session has been disrupted repeatedly on the BJP’s demand for an assembly panel probe into the alleged irregularities in the Commonwealth Games.
Three BJP legislators were expelled Friday for three days and uproar continued at their appearance on the final day.
BJP members shouted slogans against Sheila Dikshit, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi around the well of the house and all attempts by Speaker Yoganand Shastri to mollify them failed.
BJP legislator Pradyuman Rajput was warned by the speaker as he tried to snatch away files from Finance Minister A.K. Walia.
