New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) The Delhi government’s hop-on, hop-off (HOHO) bus service launched during the Commonwealth Games is a big hit with Congress workers from outside Delhi who are here to attend the party’s plenary.
According to Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) member Rajeev Sharma, one of the officials in-charge of transport for the plenary, many workers opted for the Delhi Transport Corporation’s HOHO bus service to explore the city.
‘The HOHO service, which was introduced by the Delhi government during the Commonwealth Games, was recommended to party cadres for visiting tourist destinations,’ Sharma told IANS.
One HOHO bus journey takes around four-and-a-half hours and covers up to 19 popular destinations in Delhi. The HOHO buses ply at a frequency of half-an-hour.
‘The HOHO service is the best option for a tourist. Within a few hours I was able to visit most of the important places in Delhi,’ said Congress leader from Hyderabad Geetha Reddy.
‘We heard about the HOHO bus service from some of the party members. We can’t spend an entire day for visiting Delhi, so we thought HOHO (bus) would be the best option as the journey will take only four-five hours, and the rate is also nominal,’ said Sangeetha Chandrasekar, a party member from Tamil Nadu.
The air-conditioned HOHO buses take visitors to various historical monuments in Delhi and other famous destinations like the Red Fort, Rajghat, National Gallery of Modern Art, India Gate, Purana Qila, Humayun’s Tomb, Lotus Temple, Qutub Minar, Hauz Khas Village, Dilli Haat, Safdarjung Tomb, Teen Murti Marg-Nehru Museum, National Museum, Janpath and Jantar Mantar.
A one-day pass of the HOHO bus service is priced at Rs.300. The buses ply between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. every day. The pass enables a passenger to hop on and hop off at any of the HOHO bus stops.
