Kolkata, May 25 (IANS) Eastern Railway is rolling out a fortnight-long consumer connect programme from Tuesday when its senior officials will interact directly with the passengers to understand their problems as well as create awareness about services, a senior official said.

“During this period, a number of passenger-amenity related projects will be inaugurated at the various stations,” ER general manager R.K. Gupta told media persons here at the ER headquarters.
He said ER has undertaken a drive to man the unmanned level crossings in the zone as well as look into hygiene factor at the coaches and stations.
Presently, there are less than 100 unmanned railway level crossings in the zone under ER.
“We will be installing RO water treatment plants in Howrah, Sealdah, Bolpur and several other places,” he said.
This summer, ER has allotted an additional 50,000 berths and 29,000 seats for passengers’ convenience.
“We will also run health camps at remote locations which will be attended by doctors from railway authorities. Roadshows have been planned in our (eastern) zone and we will be holding meetings with the people, state government and all stakeholders in the railways during the fortnight beginning May 26,” said Gupta.
He also said while railways has been taking feedback from passengers over the catering service on the trains, during the consumer connect week, he will also be asking people about their culinary preferences and choices.
