Kolkata, Feb 3 (IANS) Director of Census Operation of West Bengal Dipak Ghosh Thursday said stern action will be taken against those enumerators who skip their mandatory training programme.

‘It is mandatory for the enumerators to attend training programme before the launch of population enumeration as several new codes and categories have been included in the questionnaires. But several of them are skipping the training programme, against whom legal action will be taken,’ said Ghosh.

Admitting that the problem is acute in Kolkata, Ghosh said: ‘A notification has already been issued by the municipal commissioner urging all the department heads to identify the truant enumerators and lodge complaint against them.’

‘If a first information report (FIR) is filed against the enumerators, a criminal proceeding will start against them and they might be jailed or fined.’ said Ghosh.

Around 1.76 lakh enumerators are required in West Bengal to conduct the census.
