New Delhi, Aug 2 (IANS) The government Tuesday said it would provide financial assistance to entrepreneurs for setting up food processing industries to avoid wastage of perishable products.
‘The assistance is available to all states of the country including hilly states,’ Charan Das Mahant, minister of state for food processing industries informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply to a question.
Under the scheme, financial assistance is provided in the form of grants for 33.33 percent of the total investment made for the plant, machinery and technical civil works.
‘A maximum of Rs.75 lakh in the difficult areas, including hilly states (is provided),’ the minister said.
The minister also informed the house that under the ‘Horticulture Mission for North East and Himalayan States’, financial assistance in grants worth 50 percent of the total cost of plant, machinery and technical civil works would be provided.
‘A maximum of Rs.4.00 crore (up to Rs.1.00 crore for upgradation of the existing units) is provided,’ the minister said.
