Bangalore, Dec 15 (IANS) The business process outsourcing subsidiary of Infosys Technologies Ltd has won the ‘Platinum’ rating for its back-office building in Jaipur from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), the IT bellwether said Wednesday.
As an ecological-oriented building certification programme of the US Green Building Council, the LEED green building system is an international benchmark for design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
‘Built on a total area of 330,000 sq feet, the green building is one of the largest platinum rated buildings in the country for sustainable site development, water saving, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality,’ the company said in a statement.
The building is expected to consume 30 percent less energy than other conventional buildings of same size.
‘As we are committed to preserving the environment, we are working towards minimising electricity and water consumption and promoting biodiversity to becoming a carbon and water neutral company,’ Infosys infrastructure vice-president Ramadas Kamath said.
As energy consumption by buildings accounts for 40 percent of global CO2 emissions, the company is investing in green buildings.
‘Jaipur is the starting point of our journey towards high performance buildings. Our endeavour is to ensure all our new buildings meet the highest standards of LEED certification,’ Kamath noted.
