Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 14 (IANS) The Kerala government’s ‘e-District’ project – which would make various government services available online – will be launched at Kannur and Palakkad districts Friday, an offcial said.

Under the aegis of Kerala IT, a state government initiative, the project will be inaugurated by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan.

‘People can utilise this programme through Akshaya, Friends and e-District websites. They can apply for all kinds of certificates online through the Common Service Centres (CSC),’ said Ajay Kumar, principal secretary for IT.

This programme aims to make available most of the government services through a single window and will initially be available for 23 services of the revenue department.

Certificates for caste, residency, identification, succession etc. can be applied for through the service.

It is a part of central government’s National e-Governance’s Programme (NeGP), an initiative to minimise the interface of citizens with government offices.

‘e-District is the core of G2C (Government to Citizen Services). Over time, other G2C services will be integrated with e-District and Akshaya e-Centres will act as one window for delivery of services to the citizens. Akshaya e-centers are available to the citizens and operate for longer durations, thus making delivery of services efficient and citizen friendly,’ added Kumar.
