Bangalore, Aug 17 (IANS) The engineering construction and contracts division of Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has selected IBM’s hardware platform to meet its enterprise resource planning needs and for server consolidation, the company said Tuesday.
‘We have chosen IBM’s higher performance server eX5 to enhance our own ERP application on windows platform with SQL database and ensure future scalability features on memory,’ L&T general manager (IT) B. Srinivasan said in a statement here.
As the division’s enterprise information portal runs on IBM platform, the eX5 server will reduce the number of servers required by 50 percent, cut storage costs by 97 percent and lower licensing fee by half.
IBM secured the L&T deal after demonstrating the value proposition on total cost of operation, clear strategy, technical capabilities and a roadmap for scalability.
‘The ability to move resources based on business needs will give L&T benefits of higher RoI (return on investment) and utilization,’ said Leo Joseph, IBM vice-president (systems).
