New Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS) Passenger car major Maruti Suzuki Monday reported a 25.33 percent dip in sales at 75,300 vehicles in July, compared to the like month of 2010, as sluggish demand and two scheduled production cuts.
The manufacturing of the sedan model Swift Dzire was shifted from Manesar to Gurgaon, temporarily affecting the production of the car, the company said in a statement.
The sales numbers for Swift Dzire in July were 5,471 units lower than in the like month of 2010.
Also Maruti discontinued the production of one of its largest selling hatchbacks, Swift, in the month under review as it plans to launch a new version of the car in mid-August.
‘The company despatched 11,828 units of Swift in July 2010, the despatch in July 2011 was only 348 units,’ said the statement.
‘While overall automobile market was sluggish, owing to these two planned activities, sales in July 2011 were negatively impacted by nearly 17,000 units compared to July 2010,’ it added.
Domestic sales for July also were down 26.2 percent at 66,504 units, while exports were 18.1 percent lower at 8,796 vehicles.
Sale from its A:mini segment, the company’s largest by volume and comprising of models like Alto, Wagon R, M800 and A-Star, fell 15.6 percent to 38,028 units.
