Mumbai, Jan 10 (IANS) Mercedes-Benz India Monday announced a record 80 percent growth in sales in 2010, with the best ever sales in December.

A company official said that the company sold 5,819 cars last year, an 80 percent rise over 2009’s tally of 3,250.

The key growth drivers were the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (2490 units), C-Class (2070 units) and the SUV range of M-Class, GL-Class and R-Class.

December was the best sales month with a record 710 units sold, which included E-Class (371 units), C-Class (141 units) and the SUV segment (127 units), marking a 115 percent increase over the corresponding period in 2009 when 334 vehicles were sold.

The official said that the company’s strategy focused on offering a comprehensive product portfolio, besides aggressive product launches and enhanced network in smaller towns and cities.
