New Delhi, June 2 (IANS) Delhi Metro has formed a special team to check the misuse of tickets by commuters and penalise those taking a route other than the purchased travel token is intended for, an official said Wednesday.
‘To prevent such instances from taking place, six special checking squads of customer relation assistants, junior station controllers and assistant station controllers have been constituted. Each team will constitute 10 members,’ a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official said.
For instance, a passenger who purchases a token at Rajiv Chowk Metro station for Vishwavidyalaya and boards the train going towards Central Secretariat and then returns in the same train bound for Vishwavidyalaya will now be fined Rs.50.
‘These teams are deputed in the terminal stations of all the lines, especially Central Secretariat, Noida City Centre, Anand Vihar, Dilshad Garden and Rithala Metro stations where maximum number of such cases are reported,’ the official said.
Asked how the teams wold ascertain the passengers’ destination, the DMRC spokesperson said the special squad is being provided with portable ticket decoders, which enables them to decode the tokens.
‘The exercise is aimed at providing better services to genuine commuters. It will continue till such tendency amongst the passengers is curbed. As per DMRC’s business rule, return journey is not allowed on the same token,’ he added.
The teams have been given separate code names – Alpha, Beta, Gama, Delta, Pie and Toe.
