Shimla, July 24 (IANS) The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned Rs.70.24 crore for rural infrastructure development in Himachal Pradesh, an official said here Tuesday.

Funds have been sanctioned for black topping of 11 roads in Sirmaur, Kangra, Bilaspur, Shimla and Solan districts, besides construction of six rural roads, a spokesperson for the bank told IANS.
He said funding of Rs.20 crore for two bridges, each located in Kangra and Mandi districts, has also been sanctioned. The state public works department would implement the projects.
The funds were sanctioned for six minor irrigation projects in Bilaspur, Kangra and Kullu districts and two flood protection projects in Kangra and Solan districts.
Himachal Pradesh has been demanding a cut in the interest rate on the Nabard loans saying high rates would hit rural projects. The issue was also raised by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal with the planning commission.
