New Delhi, July 5 (IANS) Over 60 long-distance trains were cancelled or disrupted Tuesday on account of the day-long shutdown called by opposition parties to protest the hike in fuel prices and high inflation, a railway ministry official said.

Among the trains disrupted or cancelled, 20 are operated by Eastern Railway, 10 by the South-Eastern Railway, 10 by from North-Eastern Frontier Railway, five by East-Central Railway, four by East-Central Railway and one from East Coast Railway.

‘In some cases, the journeys were cut short while several others were stranded at various stations because of disruptions,’ said the official. ‘The disruptions were the maximum in West Bengal, Bihar and Orissa.’

Some of the important cancelled trains include Ranchi-Shatabdi Express, Black Diamond Express, Poorva Express, Shantiniketan Express, Asansol inter-city Express, Toofan Express and Bhagirathi Express.
