New Delhi, July 5 (IANS) The Delhi cabinet Monday approved a proposal to bring the health scheme for state government employees at par with that of the central government, enabling them to avail of medical facilities in private hospitals at the government’s expense.

At a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, the state cabinet decided to bring improvement and overcome obstacles being faced by the beneficiaries of the Delhi Government Employees Health Scheme (DGEHS).

The DGEHS was launched in April 1997, and modified last in 2007.

The step has been taken to ensure medical facilities without any bottlenecks and the government officials and former and present members of legislative assembly will be able to enjoy the benefit.

At present, any of the scheme’s beneficiary, if wanting to get treatment in a private hospital, has to be referred there by a government hospital.
