New Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS) The railways need a separate safety board like the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to help bring down accidents, Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi has said.

‘We have to think of a separate railway safety board … on the lines of DGCA so that it can tell us what can be done to prevent accidents,’ Trivedi said here Sunday night.

Trivedi’s view came hours after the engine and six coaches of the Guwahati-Bangalore Express derailed and were hit by a passenger train on the adjacent tracks in West Bengal’s Malda district Sunday.

One person was killed and 35 people were injured in that accident.
