Raipur, Nov 4 (IANS) The Chhattigarh capital set a new record for the state Wednesday as Dhanteras shopping clocked a business of Rs.250 crore, much higher than last year’s figure of Rs.130 crore.
‘The Dhanteras shopping has made a record this year. The market recorded an estimated business of over Rs.250 crore, with automobile, real estate and jewellery making the bulk of the business,’ a market source told IANS Thursday.
While data for the entire state are yet to be compiled, Dhanteras shopping has been beyond expectation in the capital, with a mad rush to book flats and bungalows.
The real estate business was roughly Rs.70 crore, he added.
The jewellery business in Saraffa Bazaar, and automobile sales – mainly of small and medium cars – have contributed a joint business of around Rs.150-160 crore.
Dhanteras, which precedes Diwali, is considered an auspicious day for making purchases. Markets all over the country witness brisk sales on this day.
