Chandigarh, Aug 13 (IANS) To reduce line losses and to prevent theft of electricity, a power distribution agency will adopt the latest Remote Automatic Metering (RAM) system for large industrial consumers.
Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) managing director Arun Kumar said Friday that the automatic meter reading system would be installed for all the 3,100 high tension (HT) industrial consumers to closely monitor their power utilisation.
The metres will enable the UHBVN to monitor the power consumption from the head office at Panchkula, adjoining Chandigarh, without any human intervention at the consumer’s premises.
‘The project would be implemented within next three months and in the first phase, it would be implemented on 507 HT industrial consumers of Panipat district where the Nigam has the maximum number of industrial consumers. The project would be further extended to all the districts under the command area of the Nigam,’ Kumar added.
He said that the implementation of the project would help in accurate billing, thereby preventing any loss of revenue.
‘The proposed RAM system is capable of providing the data of tampering of meters by magnet or through any other device, hourly data of consumption for last 35 days,’ Kumar said.
In case of any abnormal consumption of power, teams from the UHBVN would inspect the premises of the industrial unit.
