Mumbai, Oct 26 (IANS) A benchmark index of Indian equities Tuesday continued to trade dull around noon, even though smaller valued scrips saw moderate buying interest. Other Asian markets too were ruling lacklustre.
The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 20,325.44 points, was ruling at 20,282.31 points, down 20.81 points or 0.1 percent from its previous close at 20,303.12 points.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was trading at 6,099.85 points, down 0.1 percent.
Broader markets were mixed. The BSE midcap index was ruling flat while the BSE smallcap index traded 0.54 percent higher.
Consumer durables and auto stocks led the gainers list, while banking, PSU and metal scrips were in the red.
Top Sensex gainers at this time were Maruti Suzuki, ITC, Jaiprakash Associates and Cipla. Among the losers were Hindalco Industries, ONGC, SBI and Hindustan Unilever.
Other Asian markets traded cautiously ahead of key quarterly corporate result announcements. Investors chose to get out of positions at higher levels, leading to downward pressure.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng ended flat at 23,610.95 points, while the Japanese Nikkei closed 0.25 percent down at 9,377.38 points.
The Shanghai Composite index closed at 3,021.27 points, up 0.99 percent.
