Mumbai, July 24 (IANS) A benchmark index of Indian equities markets was trading 22 points up in afternoon trade Tuesday. Some buying was seen in FMCG, consumer durables and oil and gas stocks.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 16907.74 points, was ruling at 16899.78 points, 0.13 percent or 22.43 points up from its previous day’s close at 16877.35 points.
The BSE FMCG index was up 67.57 points, followed by consumer durables index, up 65 points, and oil and gas index, up 38.17 points.
The wider 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was ruling 0.08 percent up at 5,122.10 points.
Major Sensex gainers were Hindustan Unilever, up 5.85 percent at Rs.468.75; Sterlite Inds, up 2.61 percent at Rs.102.15; Maruti Suzuki, up 2.02 percent at Rs.1,101.70; ONGC, up 0.80 percent at Rs.283.30 and Jindal Steel, up 0.69 percent at Rs.417.05.
The main losers were Wipro, down 2.74 percent at Rs.346.60; BHEL, down 1.46 percent at Rs.216.60; Sun Pharma, down 1.40 percent at Rs.608.10; Larsen and Toubro, down 1.27 percent at Rs.1,357 and Hero MotoCorp, down 0.87 percent at Rs.2,035.40.
Among other Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei was down 0.24 percent while Shanghai’s composite index was trading 0.24 percent higher. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was down 0.72 percent.
