Mumbai, Oct 21 (Inditop.com) A key index of the Indian equities markets started trade on a sombre note Wednesday and was ruling flat about 30 minutes after opening bell.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened higher at 17,229.72 points and, 30 minutes into trade, was at 17,202.14 points, 0.12 percent or 20.87 points lower than its previous close at 17,223.01 points.

Around the same time, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also in the green at 5,105.7 points, down 0.17 percent from its last close.

Broader market indices were trading firm, with the BSE midcap index ruling 0.25 percent up, while the BSE small cap index was trading 0.76 percent higher.
