Mumbai, Nov 13 (Inditop.com) A key Indian equity index ended a volatile trading session Friday 0.92 percent higher than its previous close.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 16,693.15 points, closed at 16,848.83 points, 0.92 percent or 152.8 points higher than Thursday’s close at 16,696.03 points.

The S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also ended in the green, up 0.93 percent at 4,998.95 points.

Broader market indices ended flat with the BSE midcap index closing 0.02 percent higher and the BSE small cap index 0.2 percent up.

The market breadth was tilted towards the positive, with 1,372 stocks advancing, 1,355 declining and 100 remaining unchanged.

Out of 30 stocks on the Sensex, 25 ended on the gainers’ list. Prominent among them were: Hero Honda, up 3.99 percent at Rs.1,579.20; Maruti Suzuki, up 3.9 percent at Rs.1,479.80; ONGC, up 3.07 percent at Rs.1,183.50; and TCS, up 2.45 percent at Rs.670.20.

Among losers were Jaiprakash Associates, down 1.99 percent at Rs.231.95; M&M, down 0.69 percent at Rs.1,029.20; DLF, down 0.62 percent at Rs.368.55; Reliance Communications, down 0.43 percent at Rs.173.80; and Tata Power, down 0.05 percent at Rs.1,326.35.

According to data with the regulator, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), foreign institutional investors bought shares worth $32.6 million Friday.

Other Asian markets ended mixed.

The primary index of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Hang Seng, was 156.06 points or 0.7 percent higher at 22,553.63 points.

The Kospi, benchmark index of the Korean Stock Exchange, closed flat at 1,571.99 points, down 0.74 points or 0.05 percent. The Nikkei, a key index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, closed at 9,770.31 points, down 34.18 points or 0.35 percent .

In China, the Shanghai Stock Exchange composite index shut shop at 3,187.65 points, up 0.46 percent.

European markets were trading on a dull note.

Britain’s FTSE 100 index was ruling 0.06 percent higher at 5,279.82 points, while its French peer, CAC 40, was trading 0.33 percent down at 3,795.36 points.

The German index, DAX, was ruling 0.12 percent up at 5,671.03 points.
