Mumbai, Sep 10 (Inditop.com) A key index of the Indian equities markets gave up some of its early morning gains a little after noon Thursday and was ruling 0.87 percent above its last closing figure.

At 12.17 p.m., the sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened higher at 16,295.92 points against Wednesday’s close at 16,183.55 points, was ruling 140.29 points or 0.87 percent higher at 16,329.05 points.

Around the same time, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), too, had slipped from its morning high and was trading at 4,853.25 points, up 0.81 percent.

Broader market indices were flat, with the BSE midcap index trading 0.4 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index moving up 0.37 percent.

Of the 13 sectoral indices on the BSE, those for banking, healthcare and metal stocks were gaining the most.

The market breadth was tilted towards the positive, with 1,319 stocks on the rise, compared to 1,232 on the decline, and 98 remaining unchanged.

Among the gainers on the Sensex were ICICI Bank, up 3.98 percent at Rs.822.40; Tata Motors, up 3.23 percent at Rs.574.95; Sterlite, up 2.27 percent at Rs.764.90; and Bharti Airtel, up 1.56 percent at Rs.416.25.

Among the losers were Hero Honda, down 1.96 percent at Rs.1,596; Jaiprakash Associates, down 1.28 percent at Rs.234.90; Tata Power, down 0.89 percent at Rs.1,281; and ACC, down 0.77 percent at Rs.792.05.

Other important Asian markets were trading mixed.

The Nikkei, a key index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, closed 201.53 points or 1.95 percent higher at 10,513.67 points.

At the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the benchmark SSE Composite was ruling 0.75 percent down at 2,924.17 points.

The primary index of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Hang Seng, was in the green at 21,269.59 points, up 418.55 points or 2.01 percent.
