Mumbai, Nov 13 (Inditop.com) A key Indian equity index was ruling 1.15 percent up Friday afternoon amid volatile trading.

At 2.20 p.m., the 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 16,693.15 points, was ruling at 16,888.57 points, 1.15 percent or 192.54 points higher than its previous close at 16,696.03 points.

Around the same time, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also higher at 5,010.8 points, up 1.17 percent from its last close.

Broader market indices were flat with the BSE midcap index only 0.16 percent higher and the BSE small cap index 0.52 percent up.

The market breadth was tilted towards the positive, with 1,431 stocks advancing, 1,233 declining and 89 remaining unchanged.

Other Asian markets ended mixed.

The primary index of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Hang Seng, was 156.06 points or 0.7 percent higher at 22,553.63 points.

The Kospi, benchmark index of the Korean Stock Exchange, closed flat at 1,571.99 points, down 0.74 points or 0.05 percent. The Nikkei, a key index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, closed at 9,770.31 points, down 34.18 points or 0.35 percent .

In China, the Shanghai Stock Exchange composite index shut shop flat at 3,187.65 points, up 0.46 percent.
