Bangalore, May 13, (Inditop.com) Wipro Infotech won three projects to set up data centres in Gujarat, Maharashtra and West Bengal for an unspecified amount, the IT bellwether said Thursday.
“The projects assume significance in the light of state data centres emerging as one of the key elements of the core infrastructure for the national e-governance plan,” Wipro head for government vertical Ranbir Singh said in a statement here.
Once integrated with other infrastructure projects like the state wide area network (SWAN) and common service centres, the data centre will form the framework for roll out of various e-government services to citizens.
“The data centres will host multiple applications and provide G2G (government-to-government), G2B (government to business) and G2C (government to citizen) services,” Singh noted.
The data centres will also act as the central repository for all data related to the state on citizen information, services portal and online services.
The Maharashtra project envisages building a 3,000 sq feet state data centre in Mumbai, commissioning and managing it for five years, while the West Bengal project is to design, build and manage its data centre in Kolkata for five years.
The Gujarat project is to upgrade and commission a data centre in Ahmedabad that will also act as a disaster recovery site for localised applications running at four mini data centres and provide online services to urban and rural citizens.
“The Indian government is focusing on improving the delivery of services to citizens, transparently managing and reporting on public expenditure and strengthening the effectiveness of interactions within various government entities,” Singh added.
Wipro hopes to win similar data centre projects from other states and consolidate its leadership position in the domestic IT space based on technology expertise, process excellence and superior execution capabilities.
