New Delhi, July 13 (Inditop.com) A 25-year-old businessman was allegedly killed by at least six armed men in northwest Delhi after he lodged a complaint accusing them of being involved in betting activities, police Monday said. Locals, however, alleged that some policemen had revealed the businessman’s name to the accused.

“The incident took place Sunday night in Ashok Vihar area, when a group of men led by local criminal Pappu, barged into the shop of Jagdish and started beating him up,” a police officer said.

“Jagdish tried to escape but they chased and caught him. Some of them attacked him with knives and swords,” the police officer added.

Jagdish was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.

Jagdish had earlier complained to the police about the bookie Pappu who was active in the area, police sources said.

According to sources, some local police personnel, known to Pappu, revealed Jagdish’s name.

“Besides betting, Pappu is involved in illicit liquor business also,” police sources added.

A source said: “The deceased alongwith the local residents had gone to the police station Sunday evening to complain about Pappu.”

Local residents alleged that they had requested the police to not reveal their names but within hours of their complaint Pappu knew everything.

Meanwhile, acting on the complaints of the local residents, Delhi police authorities have suspended three constables who allegedly revealed Jagdish’s name to Pappu.

“An enquiry has been ordered and three constables have been suspended from duty,” Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat told IANS.

The police have registered a case of murder and is investigating the matter. However, no arrest has been made as yet, a police officer said.
