Lucknow, Oct 4 (Inditop.com) A 10-year-old boy, who was kidnapped from New Delhi Saturday afternoon, was rescued by the police at the Kanpur railway station in Uttar Pradesh early Sunday morning, officials said.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) also arrested the kidnapper Devendra, a rickshaw puller who used to live near the boy’s house in the Trilokpuri locality of east Delhi.
The boy, Kapil, was returning from his school when Devendra kidnapped him.
“Devendra got down from the Saptkranti Express at around 3 a.m. today (Sunday) morning to fetch water. However, our cops, travelling as escorts in the train, noticed Kapil who was crying to go home. Sensing something foul, the cops approached Devendra who tried to escape but was nabbed,” inspector Tripurari Shukla of the GRP told Inditop.
“Devendra instantly confessed and we also recovered a country made pistol and some drugs which he had used to make Kapil unconscious before kidnapping him,” Shukla said.
“During interrogation, Devendra revealed that he called up Kapil’s father demanding a ransom of Rs.5 lakh. He was taking the child to Bihar, his native state, and planned to kill him after getting the ransom. An FIR in this connection was also lodged in New Delhi late Saturday evening,” Shukla added.
“We instantly called Kapil’s father who will be reaching here any time,” he added.
