Chandigarh, July 9 (Inditop.com) A city court Thursday convicted a 21-year-old engineering student for repeatedly raping and impregnating a woman on the pretext of marrying her.
The court will Saturday pronounce the quantum of sentence against the convict, Abhishek.
The 24-year-old victim, who is now a mother of a 10-month-old girl child, had filed a complaint against Abhishek in March 2008 when she was two months pregnant.
He was arrested soon after.
The woman had to leave her job with a telecom company after the case was widely reported in the media. She knew Abhishek, a resident of neighboring Panchkula town, for more than a year before he duped her.
A DNA report confirmed that he is the father of the child even though Abhishek had earlier denied it.
