Bogota, April 27 (Inditop) A wooden crucifix saved the life of a Colombian reporter when it diverted a bullet fired by a criminal, doctors and media reports said.
Hugo Cuartas, a reporter with a television channel in Colombia’s westcentral city of Manizales, had an encounter with a pair of criminals while returning in his car from work along with a colleague Friday night.
The robbers forced the duo to hand over their belongings. While the crooks were leaving the place, Cuartas honked his car’s horn that prompted one of them to return and fire at him point blank.
The 54-year-old reporter was shot once in the forearm and the bullet travelled through the limb and reached his chest in the area of the heart, where it hit the crucifix and was deflected, likely saving the man’s life.
The reporter was taken to a nearby hospital and operated on for his wounds.
